Something on your mind? Chat about it here.

Important weekend-related questions, ladies: do you prefer coated denim, faux leather, suede, or actual leather? (Do you find one category is more versatile than another?) If you are wearing this kind of look, are you opting for skinny jeans or “newer” styles like bootcuts? (And: what are your thoughts on colored leather?!) Are you still wearing the faux leather leggings that were omnipresent the past few years?

{related: can you wear leather to the office?}

I’m always interested in these things because I feel like I should be someone who wears a lot of this look (I do like the edgy tough-girl look!) but the coated denim and faux leather pants I have are kind of really cold for winter, yet it feels like the look is solidly a winter one. (I sometimes just suck it up and wear silk long johns — even beneath those Spanx leggings — but that can feel bulky rather quickly.)

Still, hope springs eternal — when I saw these cool coated denim jeans from L’Agence on the website I thought, OOH, what are those? The dark cocoa/petrol color feels new. I can’t decide how I feel about the bootcut legs, though. (Although I think I do prefer them to the split hems on these.)

The pictured jeans are $286 at Nordstrom (and they also come in a super bright hot pink, which if you can wear, my hat is OFF to you). L’Agence actually has a ton of coated denim in bootcuts, skinny, and cropped styles — as do most of the major denim brands. If you’re looking for an affordable way to try the trend, Mango, STS, Topshop, and Kut from the Kloth all have options under $100.
