Casemiro admits he was ‘really surprised’ by Manchester United star Marcus Rashford after Real Madrid transfer

Manchester United star Casemiro has tipped Marcus Rashford to become one of the best players in the world after admitting he was shocked at how good the Englishman was following his move to Old Trafford.

The Brazilian joined the Red Devils in a £60m deal last summer, ending his nine-year stint at the Bernabeu.

The 30-year-old’s been a revelation at Old Trafford and has dismissed any concerns that his move to the north-west was an easy pay-day after nearly a decade in Madrid.

Erik ten Hag’s appointment has been a blessing for a number of United players but nobody’s benefited more than Marcus Rashford.

The winger was United’s matchwinner against Wolves on New Year’s Day, scoring midway through the second half after coming on a half-time.

Rashford was dropped for poor timekeeping but he gave the Dutchman the perfect response by ensuring United finish the year in perfect fashion.

And Casemiro admitted afterwards that he was shocked to discover the full quality of Rashford upon his arrival at Old Trafford.

‘I’m going to be very honest with you, I was really surprised by the player that Rashford is,’ said Casemiro.

‘In my opinion, especially knowing the player off the pitch, if he does well he can be one of the five best players in the world.’

United’s win came before dropped points from rivals Newcastle and Manchester City, helping Ten Hag’s side into the top four.

The Red Devils take on Bournemouth on Tuesday, in a gameweek when rivals Newcastle play Arsenal and City face Chelsea.
