So you want to party this new year’s eve but don’t have anything to wear, and your bank balance has taken the hit of the century? Think rental.

After all, we rent everything from property to cars to movies, so why not clothes?

It’s eco-friendly, cuts down on fast fashion waste, helps in the cost of living crisis, and means you can wear a designer dress for a fraction of the cost you’d pay to buy one.

Here’s our pick of the places to check out that still have gorgeous outfits available for New Year’s Eve 2023.

By Rotation

With over 60,000 fashion items to choose from, you’re sure to find something at By Rotation. This Nadine Merabi three-piece tuxedo (pictured) would set you back £400 new, but it’s from £75 to rent for three days.

The site has a wealth of sparkly dresses, jumpsuits, jackets and trouser suits, plus bags, shoes, hats, and accessories. A pair of gold Chanel earrings costs from £33 for two days.

Founded in 2019, By Rotation claims to be the ‘largest shared wardrobe in the UK’.

Lenders set their own prices and you deal with them directly. Do check each lender’s reviews and agree on how you’d like it delivered (in person or by courier at this late stage), plus expectations for cleaning before return.

One Hit Wonders

You’ll find a wide range of dresses, coats, and bags at One Hit Wonders – along with great customer service – which promises to ‘get rid of dressapointment’.

Yes, we’re not sure that’s how you spell it, either. But we get the vibe.

They also have an entire section devoted to new year’s eve outfits.

If there’s something specific you’re looking for, founder Sophie Young – who started the brand after a major wardrobe clear-out – will help to find it. The price includes minor wear and tear and a return bag to post it back at the end of the rental period.

Renting the Retrofete Ariella Dress dress (pictured above) will set you back £42 – much more doable than the RRP of £464.

Girl Meets Dress

With all items sent via a next-day delivery service, you can be sure you’ll be the belle of the ball.

A Victoria Beckham sequinned shirt dress costs £69 for two nights – or for an extra £10 you can keep it for a week.

Returns are in a pre-paid bag via the local post office, and if you want to try the dress on in person before choosing, they have a showroom in Fulham (you need to email to make an appointment).

The clock is ticking down to 2023, so if you’re still searching for that perfect rental party dress – act fast and make a real entrance!
