We’ve seen unexpected makeup collaborations like the HipDot x Nissin cup noodles, E.l.f. Cosmetics x Dunkin Donuts collection, and ETUDE x Italian wafer brand Loafer eyeshadows, but none of them compare to Fenty Beauty’s latest one with Brooklyn-based art collective MSCHF.
Rihanna’s beauty brand has just dropped a limited-edition makeup palette that features a bright, opaque orange design, and in the centre, the curious words: KETCHUP OR MAKEUP. Flip open the palette and you’ll see six “ketchup” packets placed in a straight, neat row.
If you’re thinking, it can’t really be ketchup, then heads up, because we’re telling you now that Fenty Beauty’s not letting you get away that easy. Each “ketchup” packet contains either lip gloss – the brand’s bestselling Gloss Bomb lippies – or straight-up ketchup.
TikTok creators have taken to the app to share their first encounters with the Ketchup or Makeup palette, with all of them incredulous about what’s really inside each raving-red “ketchup” packet.
Holding the packets up to the camera, @christxiee exclaimed, “I can’t get over the fact that these either have ketchup in it… or lip gloss.”
She ripped open the “ketchup” packet like how you would a regular one whilst eating chicken chop with a side of french fries, and a bright red paste split slightly over the top.
It could have just as well been ketchup or makeup but, lucky for the TikTok creator, it was… a shimmering bright red-orange Gloss Bomb.
Using her index finger, she smeared it easily over her lips, giving her a supple, shiny, juicy pout, characteristic of a tantalising Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizers finish.
Other TikTok creators haven’t been so fortunate on their first go; @_alyssa_lorraine_ 2q2’s opened not one, but two ketchup-containing packets before she was rewarded with Fenty Beauty’s red-orange lip gloss.
Like everyone else, we still can’t decide if we absolutely love or hate this limited-edition Fenty Beauty x MSCHF Ketchup or Makeup palette, but it’s safe to say that it’s the strangest, most notorious one we’ve seen so far.
And, if you’re up for the challenge, you can purchase the palette for US$25 (approximately S$34.76) on MSCHF’s website, with shipping fees calculated at checkout.
But should you be eyeing the irresistible shimmering red-orange glosses by Fenty Beauty, then we’ve got a secret to share: it’s, in fact, the Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer in the shade Cheeky.
This, you can find in another limited-edition New Year Glow Lip + Luminizer Set on Sephora, which features a Diamond Bomb All-Over Diamond Veil in Royal Icing, a champagne gold sparkle, and the Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer in Cheeky.
