TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A standoff involving an armed man who allegedly barricaded himself in a truck with a 3-year-old boy has ended, authorities said.
St. Pete police responded to a domestic incident at a home in the 1900 block of Norfolk Street North. Police said the man, who was acting erratically, had taken a child, and had the boy in his truck.
Police said the man knows the boy’s family, but the exact nature of their relationship was not disclosed.
A sheriff’s office helicopter was used to locate the truck, which eventually crashed underneath the Interstate 275 overpass on Gandy Boulevard.
Police blocked off the area and brought in a SWAT team to negotiate with the man.
Shortly before 5 a.m., he was taken into custody, police said.
The roadway is expected to reopen around 6 a.m.
Further information was not immediately available.
